“Clean air and water is critical to the health of our people and the future of our economy. We also need to start planning now for the effects of climate change on Tampa.” – David Straz
David Straz was an early supporter of environmentally sensitive policies. David was influenced by his personal friend, Senator Gaylord Nelson who founded Earth Day. David believes protecting the environment is an important part of being mayor. He will make environmental considerations an important part of his decision-making process. David and his wife Catherine have been strong supporters of Lowry Park Zoo and provided critical funds needed for the manatee habitat and veterinary hospital there. Recent red tide problems in and near Tampa Bay highlight the impact bad environmental policies are having on our quality of life. David Straz will work closely with state and federal officials to protect the delicate Tampa environment.
